Paying tribute to its legacy, the fifth generation of Nissan patrol, the Y61 was first released in 1997. It is available in Sri Lanka in 4.8 liter gasoline (GRX – Gasoline) and 3.0 liter diesel (GRX – Diesel). This seven seater 4WD SUV offers 5 speed manual transmission or 4 speed automatic transmission in the diesel model while the gasoline model offers 5 speed automatic transmission with sports manual shifting capabilities.


The overall design of the vehicle stays true to the unique structure of the line of Nissan Jeeps which is a box shaped design with sharp edged and contours. Nissan pursues innovation in the area of safety technology with the concept of the “Safety Shield”, an advanced, proactive approach to safety issues based on the idea that cars should help protect people. Hence the structure of the vehicle helps to enhance the safety of the passengers by incorporating crushable zones that reduce shock by absorbing impact energy and a cabin structure that safeguards the passengers. The door beams of the vehicle further the protection by reducing the force of side impacts.

The stylish interior that consists of leather and electric seats, wood-in-lay panel and a leather and wood steering wheel offers unexpected luxury for an off-road 4WD vehicle.  The standard colours for the Y61 are light gold, black, silver, white and pearl white.


The Y61 – Patrol GRX grade gasoline jeep has a 6 cylinder 24 valve engine with a engine capacity of 4759CC. The Y61 – Patrol GRX diesel has a 4 cylinder engine with a 2955CC common rail engines. The engine model of the gasoline jeep is a TB48-DE DOHC with electronic concentrated engine control system (ECCS) while the diesel has a ZD30- DDTI (direct diesel turbo intercooler) delivering the best of Nissan’s engine technology. The 5 speed automatic transmission with manual mode in the gasoline jeep provides a sporty performance, while the 4 speed automatic transmission or the 5 speed manual transmission in the diesel jeep provides a comfortable drive in all situations.

The stability of Y61 at high speeds gives you confidence to enjoy a thrilling drive. The valve timing control (VTC) increases engine power and torque while the heavy –duty coil suspension, incorporating telescopic shock absorbers and a torsion bar provides confident handling. Designed to meet the everyday needs, Nissan Patrol – gasoline has a fuel economy of 4-5 kms per liter in the city and 5-7kms per liter during long distance travelling.


Y61 is modeled with white halogen head lamps, alloy wheels, spare tyre cover and a front laminated safety green windshield. The jeep also offers electric sunroof, dual SRS air bags, ABS brakes, electric seats and an environmental friendly CFC free auto dual air conditioner. Considering the comfort of the passengers, the jeep provides a front glove compartment box, cup holders at the front and rear and front seat back trays. The multifunctional steering wheel with cruise controlling allows a relaxed drive while the 2-DIN audio system with FM radio, CD player, MP3 player with AUX input and 40W speakers make the drive more pleasant.
